Proper toe height

When adjusting the toe height on Salomon Warden MNC 13 bindings, I know you’re supposed to pull the boot backwards while testing the toe height with a shim. I did this recently, however when I then clipped into the binding, I noticed a lot of play up and down in the toe piece. While wearing the boot, I stepped into the binding and pulled my foot back hard, while adjusting the toe height until I could barely remove the shim. Is this the correct method, or should it be done with the boot NOT on my foot?
Thanks for any help

I think you broke everyone's brain with your post.

I googled the tech manual for you which has the official instructions on how to adjust.

If something still is uncertain, then take it into a shop and show a tech in person.
