Hi Ladies and Gents, I have a 172 cm Volkl Deacon and looking to buy a bag for it.

My question is with the Volkl Expandable Ski Bag (170-195), does the extra slack (which I guess is the blue space below) remain fully expanded to 195cm when expanded? Meaning there is extra space of 23cm (195cm bag length minus 172cm ski length) when expanded? Can the extra slack compress to the length of the ski?

My other question is with the non-expandable 170cm one. Is there any way I can fit a 172cm ski in it? Is there extra fabric slack or stretch for another 2 cm or is it a "hard" 170cm?

Thanks in advance for replying.

Can't see enough detail in that photo to know. My expandable Head ski bag unzips to expand, but you can zip it back up, works nicely for either my 175 AX or 185 Enforcer.
You can probably fit a 172 into it at 170, but unless there's at least a couple of cm of slack and/or really good padding at the top & bottom you risk damage if the bag takes a hard knock on either end.
You might want to think about the Db bag shown at the bottom of the page on the link (IF you can handle the nomenclature).

I ordered the 170cm and still waiting for delivery. The ski shop had a Deacon 84 and they were kind enough to test if it can fit in the 170 and said it did. We'll see.

I had one of those bags and ended up selling it before I used it. When it is zipped short, it is too short for 172's. You can get them in but its a very tight fit. Its not very wide either, so you can't fit anything in alongside your skis.

I will report back once I get the bag. Hopefully tomorrow Monday Sydney time. I only plan on fitting a pair of skis and poles. The use case is only for chucking in the bag in the boot of a car, not luggage in a plane. So I guess a really tight fit isn't a problem. I just want a bag that will keep it together instead of the skis and poles thrashing about in the boot of the car.

If it doesn't fit, I hope the shop I bought it from would be kind enough to exchange it for the expandable one.

Happy to report it fits the skis and a pair of poles. I reckon you can squeeze articles of clothing in nooks and crannies as well.
