Rent Plattekill Mountain for a GTG?

I don't know if this topic has been broached previously. Is there enough interest (and NE skiers) on Ski Talk to consider renting Plattekill Mountain (NY) for a day? At $8,500, we would need 100 people willing to put up $85 each in advance (and an additional $15 donation to Ski Talk ;-). For 200 skiers, the price drops to $42.50 pp.

Your thoughts?

Would be fun. But…

My understanding is they have few/no days available for this season already.

“Not it“ on the job of coordinating that many people when money is involved.

Also note our biggest gatherings at western resorts with more reliable snow have only been around 100, but typically less.

for just $250 more, you could rent Pico ($8750/day)

We did have about 30 folks show up at the Killington Eastern gathering a couple of seasons ago with most using their Ikon pass. Getting three times that for a one mid week ski day nearly impossible.

Plattekill is a nice but small hill, most of our skiers would get bored due to not enough challenge.

I can have more than enough fun at Plattekill for a day, especially when there’s snow in the trees and bumps off the double. And I’d pay for a day as OP suggests. I just don’t think we could find enough others to commit.

And next year (24/25) price will be $10,000.

Not only that.

Plattekill is well known for being uncrowded. So why "rent the whole mountain" excluding others? Would a few non-ski talkers kill the joy???

The novelty of an entire mountain for just your group would be fun at least once. But I’m happy to go there when others are there too. And there’s a difference between “uncrowded” and “a few“ non-ski talkers.

Never been.

Let's do an impromptu Powder Daze GTG.

yeah ... but that was ... April? I mean it's going to be hard to get 80 ppl here to agree to go anywhere...

i've done private days at Pico before ("networking") ... it's pretty great.

They don’t really do them anymore because the mountain is always rented.
I thought they were public on the weekend and private during the week.

Maybe I misunderstood - I was referring to the powder daize that they used to have midweek when they were typically closed but would open after a big storm. Between gathering employees at unexpected times and so many private rentals, they don’t happen much anymore,

As someone who has been skiing Plattekill for years and has been attending lots of private days for charity events, all I can say is NO. I love Platty, don't get me wrong; esp. when there's a dump and it's open with wall to wall woods and everything. But, it is pretty well booked ahead of time for private events. That means you need to book it and live with it. If Platty has the goods, it's great. But if it's icy groomers only, well let's just say, someone better bring a several kegs and hire <Plug in your favorite musician here> for an alternative plan. It's like Magic Mountain in Vermont on an icy groomer only day if you've been there with those conditions.

Goodness. People complained about Killington April 1. Can only imagine here late March.
Chance of 100 skiers- slim to none.

I think you can still add a poll. That would be enlightening.

The simple answer is just set a meet for a non-holiday Friday when Plattekill open. No need to rent the place and coordinate the money or get locked into marginal conditions. The place is great fun and you will have to share the place with 100 other people on non-Holiday Friday (in other words the place will be empty).
