Ok, I'll play. Only got a few as most of my old photos are still in the UK.

Hinged gates! What year did they come in wide use?
Seems they were a bit new then. They hit the world cup in 1980, but it took a while to dripple down to my level. I found they threw me off balance, in that I'd lean into the gate and when it offered no resistance, I'd about fall over forward.

Here's another one of Dad's photos: Tuckerman's Ravine, New Hampshire 1944. (Please don't correct me on the 's. Some call it Tuckerman Ravine, I know, but Dad was a native and taught at UNH)

I posted this on Epic, and received an inquiry as to whether I had the rights to the photo. It ended up in the 50 Classic Ski Descents book.

Yup, Dynafit 3F. Greta boots but they killed my feet.:( On that trip after 2 days both big toe-nails were about an inch high with fluid which I had to burn a hole through to drain. I ended up buying a pair of SX90 equipes a few days later so I could still ski the second week of the trip.

That’s a great shot. A lot of people!
I think we used that rock on the right to sit and put skis on this May.

Snowbird, late 80's-early 90's. Dynamic VR35 skis, Salomon 91E boots. Coming down skiers left of Mark Malu fork, which back then was the furthest into that area that was officially on the trail map.
This was not long after the Cliff Lodge opened. On the lowest floor, they actually had "dorm" style rooms, 4 beds, lockable storage, shared bath. I think it was about $40/night. The two times I stayed in those rooms I only shared a room once, with one other guy. Hard to believe they actually had rooms like that in that place.

Have plenty of old 35mm slides and VHS tapes from 1980 onward but that would require figuring out if my old dusty scanner with dated software still runs or if my unused for years VHS player stills turns. Instead an early compact digital DimageX shot standing atop Alpine Meadows March 2003.

What year? Great picture.
Sorry, I don't know. He never told us anything about his service except that he taught men to swim who were afraid to be in water up to their knees, and once he backed a jeep into a post. When we saw the pictures with skis, he added, "I learned to cross-country ski in the Army." That's it.

He didn't finish the war with the 10th, but I have no idea why. Turns out he "liberated the Philippines," according to my husband who he did talk to, a little. His discharge papers verified that.
