So all the German manufacturers have retired Reisenslalom and Abfahrt?

No clue. Not that important to me.
Had several Volkl P9 RS and P20 RS Super back in the days.

Abbreviated generic list for letters that are on skis:

WC: World Cup
FIS: As in, FIS Alpine. The ski has dimensions to whatever year world cup specs.
S: Slalom, Sporty, Short turns/radius and narrow under foot, short in length.
C: Carving/Carver. Short to medium radius turn, narrow under foot.
GS: Giant Slalom. Medium radius and narrow under foot and long.
DH: Downhill. Really big radius, narrow under foot and very long.
A: All mountain/all purpose
R: Race-ish. Sporty, narrow under foot.
Ti or Titanium: There is titanal in the skis (not titanium).
Number: If two digits, probably the width under the foot in mm.

X or T: We needed another letter. May also stand for "ish" or "ski"

We need to get Helen Zaltzman on the case here.

I trust you're a fan of all the output of the Zaltzman family including the Bugle (the show that made John Oliver the satirical powerhouse he is today) and Test Match Special Statisician interludes.

(If you like etymology - "Something Rhymes with Purple" is another fun podcast)

Bring an oblivious Yank, no. But thanks for the tip!

While doing the washing up tonight I listened to the latest episode of The Bugle. (A name that arguably evokes my country better than yours, making up for subtlety and sophistication as it does with loudness and excessive simplicity.)

It was by turns amusing and over-the-top clever - cleverness delivered in that conspicuously flat funny-British-guy tone, like Holly's on Red Dwarf. The best bits were about Trump, and about the French legalizing eating lunch at one's desk. I'll have to listen to another to see how it sounds in daylight.

I've seen numerous references to the X in the Kastle designation standing for cross but never construction. @Philpug can you solve this?

My favourite part, not present every episode, is when Zaltzman goes on an excrutiating pun run

T - marketing needed another letter; may stand for "ish" or "ski"

The "T" appears in a few but not alone(?), such as "GT" "MT" "HT" "LT" "AT". Seems like it stands for touring, terrain, turn(ing). I see it as a marketing letter, since it's a letter that could be dropped from many (maybe not all) or replaced with "ski" because all of those things are things a ski does anyway.

There's a lot of alphabet soup on the Fischer skis that may not yet be covered. https://www.fischersports.com/us_en/alpine/ski
Same with Rossignol.

AR, SL, GT, RC, RC4, PR, FR, FF, SLR, AC, .... (Fischer)
HP, W, AI, C, CI, HD, PRO, ... (Rossignol)

Each manufacturer seems to have their own dialect. There are a few common letters and what they mean across brands.

Going back to change all the Xs to "Cross".
@Phil, what does Cross mean in simple terms; what does it tell the buyer, if anything?
