Heads up to @SKI-3PO and other C & O Canal lovers.
Jan 8th is the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the C & O National Historical Park joining the National Park System.
In the last few days a new and unprecedented visitor to the park has been spotted around the Lock 17/Great Falls area of Maryland a few miles north of Washington DC, it's a sparrow-sized bird called the Painted Bunting:

The Swiss ambassador to the US must live in the area and first spotted him, but now he has many fans:

I did get an email on the anniversary from the Canal Trust.

That’s an impressive bird.

We lost Tommy Lasorda today. Had to be the greatest of the LA Dodger Skippers.

It is not history but it will be.
We lost Mrs. Joanne Rogers on Jan 14, 2021.

Is the 21st Day of the 21st year of the 21st century.
That's cool, and you had me scrambling on some family history. For a minute I thought it was also the 100th anniversary of my Mom's birth because January 21st is the feast day of St. Agnes and she was named after that saint. But my Mom's parents must have thought of the name of the patron saint of girls a few days late. I checked a prayer card I had from my Mom's funeral. She was born on January 24, 1921 and passed away on March 26, 2006.

Thanks for jogging my memory! I just shared a related reminder with my siblings.

No - 35 years ago as Erik mentioned. That's the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion, in 1986.
We all remember where we were when we saw it. I was at the Plymouth Meeting Mall and watched it on a display television.

I can't look at that picture without tearing up a little and hearing "Roger go throttle up" in my head.
