Just got back from receiving my dose of fighter porn. Anybody else been yet? It had all the elements needed to satisfy me after a 36 year wait for more. Not only that, but my kids actually liked it too. There was no guarantee that that would happen.

I feel the need, the need for speed!!! Awesome movie.....just like the original it was fun and the jet scenes are fantastic.

The opening scene from the original is one of the coolest opening scenes of all time.....

Saw it ... twice! Opening day and again today. Very good, enjoyed it immensely.
Watched the original one before seeing this. Now I want to watch it again because of the references that I was unaware of going into Maverick

This is the kind of movie we'll watch multiple times.

Speaking of legal, I met a naval aviator last year who told me JAG is a huge hit in carrier wardrooms :roflmao:

it makes me think of movies that were more real/accurate than you would expect.

But if we're going to be picky here's just a few...

1. There is no such plane as a Mig-28
2. There is no Top Gun winner/trophy.
3. There are no shower/change rooms - they were added to show actor pecs
4. Doing aileron rolls in front of a bandit is useless - but it makes for good filming
5. Ahhh, screw it... still one of my fav movies

Going to see TG2 later today...

Well, yes, but that OG opening scene is purportedly operations, not quals.
I'm not picky about film's taking liberties for dramatic purposes, and I love both TG and TG:M.

If you are talking legal stuff, from what I have read the jet flying upsidedown on top of another jet, scene from the first movie is against the laws of aerodynamics. What do our flight experts have to say about that part of the first movie?

TG2 - spot on sequel. :thumb: Almost worth the 36 year wait.

Don't know about aerodynamics but wouldn't work geometrically.

Here's approx scale outlines of the planes in supposed position. The Mig28 (actually an F5) is 48ft long and 13.5ft high. The Tomcat is 63ft long and 16ft high.

Me too ... unless skiing is involved. I picked out a few errors with Molly Bloom.
