I have skied Steamboat several times and would never hesitate to drop into the trees if there is even half-way decent snow.
The trees I know in the east are way scary, tight, and bumped out.
Not at all the same....and not easier.
Agreed, it's mighty fine in the woods with the pines and powder. Could do with more angle.

I should say... it has been years since my visit.
