They really need to make them out of better materials. A map that rips the first time you pull it out in a little wind is just a waste.

I thought we were Luddites?
We shall burn the paper maps! Err…I mean the maps in the phone! Burn those!
That’s what they do at concerts these days. Those are trail maps burning!
Certainly we are both because of our revolt against the Technocracy.

Looks like it's not just VR. No more free maps at WP/MJ but "souvenir trail maps" are available for sale.

…the new Winter Park Resort app will offer turn-by-turn directions around the base…

Let’s hope they don’t offer it for trails

That conjures up scary images in my mind.

Why? It's completely analogous to RideWithGPS routes. You could totally do it with your bike GPS and any of several route creation tools.

A lot of hills now have Strava segments and leaderboards - I'll bet people are doing guided routes already.

I could see where that could be useful in a place like Port du Soleil, where there are interconnected resorts and you’re trying to get from one starting place to another village/resort .

One of the places we ride mountain bikes has trail maps printed on micro fibre
They aren't cheap but with 150kms of free trails to ride its easy to get lost
They can also be used as bandages and to clean up blood. Ask me how I know.....

Go past this tree. At the next tree, turn left.
If narrated by my long lost grandpa,.....
Go that way for a fair bit and hang a right where Peterson's barn used to be.

And you think pedestrians walking around with their face buried in a phone is bad. Now move the venue to the ski slope and kick the velocity up 10 fold. What can go wrong?

Definition of Mass Casualty incident?

Darwin is gonna have a field day.

Eh, you forgot about the other scenario: Synthetic Voice GPS "lady" yelling out of 50 phones every 200 vertical :D

"Turn uphill NOW! Turn uphill NOW!"

….”rerouting……turn around and side step uphill for 225 feet, then traverse until you reach Bunny Buster.”

”On your current trail you will reach your lodge restroom destination in approximately 12 minutes. There is a 5 minute delay due to an accident on the side of the trail. ”

My grandmother back in the 80s would tell people to drive thru town and turn at the Sambos to get to our property. All I could do was laugh. That place had been closed for years.

Yeah, around here people always say, “follow the road to the left, uphill past Carl’s old place.”
…Carl has been dead for 10 years.

Also..to me:
”Oh! so you live not far from the old Manatawny Hotel!”
…that building has been a veterinarian’s office for the past 30 years.
