Yesterday morning while hiking to do a mountain climb in the Twin Peaks Wilderness Area of the Wasatch National Forest, I came upon these two bull moose hanging out along the shoreline of Lake Blanche. Initially the larger one was standing in the lake dining on aquatic vegetation while the other was lying down relaxing just above the water level. By the time I reached the opposite shoreline while on my way to my destination, the moose in the lake was repeatedly bellowing loudly until his companion joined him in the water.

Swans on Upper Mystic Lake near Boston. The brown one must be a teenager.

Every year we enjoy these beautiful gentle tarantula's migration. These are males seeking to build family. Every fall...they are all over and 100% welcome.

How common are they? Like if you walked through a field would you see one every 10 feet? Every 100 feet? You have to really hunt for them? etc....

Crazy common. Every 50 feet I'd say. Depends on the date and weather...some days a bunch....I'll get another pic or two. Often, at any time in late Sep and all Oct I can go out and find one or more climbing my house. I'll go look now.

edit...went for a look and found 0. It's 88 right now...a little warm. Cooler the better for finding them.

I just now walked my pup to potty :wag:and a GIANT bird flew out of my tree 20 feet above me. Don't know what it was but likely a hawk or barn owl. Fun. No pic. Video is barn owl youngster a few days ago. Ended with my bike. LOL. Wife laughed when she saw end.:bikewheelie:

I had these both living on my third floor condo balcony for a few weeks in the summer of 2011.... th mantis was probably 6" long. The spider probably 2 inches across.

Yes... for at least a few days days both were hanging around. The mantis wasn't around for nearly as long as the spider.
and they just ignored each other? That's surprising. At least to me.
