I'm missing my bike(s) on my vacation, but Hawaii is a pretty sweet tradeoff. From what my biking and skiing friends are telling me it's going to have snowed nearly two feet of snow while I'm gone. Trails are going to be 100% covered and smoothed when I get back and the skiing will also be fantastic.

@firebanex, we all hate you, but Ho Ho Ho anyway!

No pics from me, skiing is too good for fat biking.

Holiday madness crowds next week will see the bike back out on the trail.

It's snowed about 20" back home and about a 1/2" of rain on top of it over the last couple days.. trails will be filled but horrible untill they get groomed and stuff. All of the ski areas have been closed because the road conditions are literal ice rinks to get there. I'm glad I'm on vacation! I feel a bit bad about it but my Dad loves to play with his snowplow and snowblower and now he has two houses to remove snow from.

Yeahhhh, getting more common than ever before. First instance it rained that I remeber was in the earl 2000's and I was in highschool. Got to watch cars just slide sideways from a complete stop on the highway into town. I would guess we get a significant winter rain event about every three years or so now. They got another 10" forcasted for today.. then the temps drop out and it'll be -30 by friday and staying there for a week.

MMMM, low angle sun, trees, snow. Looks like a great time! I'm severely missing riding my bikes and skis at this point in time.

I got stuck in Hawaii for an extra week because of the airline cancelations out of Seattle. We actually left Hawaii on the 2nd and flew to Seattle but had our flight to Alaska get canceled. Fastest option was to go back to Hawaii and fly direct to Anchorage a 5 days later. Made it home on Saturday and had picked up a stuffy nose and throat, what I though was allergies to something during the last few days. Yeah no, my after traveling Covid test is positive. No bikes or skiing till I'm done with this.

I've been getting out on the fat bike for short-ish local rides. Nothing worthy of a photo, but damn, I love this new-to-me winter sport!

@LiquidFeet went to Hawaii for two weeks, got stuck in Hawaii for an extra week cause of flight cancellations. Came down with covid during the third week but didn't realize that's what I had. Flew home and got tested and then had another week off while I recovered. It was a very mild case as I have both shots and a booster but I'm easing back into biking and skiing as it has been a month since I really did anything. The part I'm most thankful for is that somehow my wife and all of my inlaws I was with never caugh it from me.

I think it was a full moon last night but there was just enough cloud cover I couldn't do a lightless ride.

Skinny bike invading fat bike thread. Gonna happen all winter. I’m back on the bike post-Omicron (I had OG-SAR2-COV in 2020 and now OC-SARS2-COV in 2022, how fun). COVID is a brain fog monster, so might as well shake things up.

^^^ Stoked to see you back in action @nay!

Much lighter riding winter for me this year, as both the alpine and xc skiing have been much better than last year.

Still getting out on my non-photo-worthy local network on occasion!

We rode last night, conditions are difficult to convey with pictures but a friend took this one as we attempted to get back to a rideable trail. It's deceptive, we are following a post hole riddled xc ski track that wasn't solid or flat enough to ride. The crust we are walking on is covering about 4' of sugar snow.. we had some wallowing when going off trail. Just about -18f when we were at this part of our ride.

^^^ Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug!

I chose this today, over fat biking in the foggy, valley floor, inversion layer....

My closest riding area holds snow, because it snows a lot more here than 15 miles down the road, and I forget that instead of waiting for my primary winter ride to melt when it needs to, I can take advantage of good fat bike grooming.

Yesterday was gorgeous and really nice conditions. I broke a little bit of trail in some lesser used areas, which fortunately was predictable and (relatively) rippable, but most was following track.

I need to get some winter riding shoes (and pants).

In a way I'm a bit jealous that you can ride a regular mtb in the snow.. It's just not feasible for me. However, if the weather in March participates in a good freeze/thaw cycle and no new snow falls.. I'm planning on taking the gravel bike or mtb out on the frozen trails in the mornings.

Also I miss sunshine. Six more weeks till I get to ride after work before the sun sets.

Looks like fun, but the fat bikers are going to burn you at the stake if your skinny tires leave ruts in the trail?!
