I think I read the occupants were banged up but not severely injured.

'Drunk' skier, 29, dies after falling through gondola window and plummeting 130ft before being impaled on piste marker.

…They 'were messing about in the lift when the 29-year-old smashed through the plexiglass screen and fell 40 metres (130 feet) to his death,' local prosecutor Eric Vaillant said on Sunday.

According to local media, the men were filming themselves when the victim, who weighed over 15 stone (100kg), rammed himself against the side of the lift.
—————

Wondering if he would be “off piste” or on for insurance reasons.

Well, he did get impaled by the piste marker, which would indicate it was technically on the trail.

Tonto, why are there no ski areas in Kansas.
There are no hills there.
But that can change !
Kansas farmers will move 1.5 billion cubic feet of soil to make a ski hill !
^^^Likely an April Fool's joke but the man made Blackstrap ski hill (now defunct) outside of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan was real. The skiing was garbage, or more correctly the skiing was on top of garbage because that was the material used to build the hill. https://www.ominocity.com/2015/03/11/ghost-town-saskatchewan-blackstrap-ski-hill-nsfw/

Not necessarily news, but still...
Among the comments below this video:

Both drivers survived. "Among those were a 'Good' roof strength rating, the threshold for which is a vehicle being able to withstand four times its own weight before the roof crushes by five inches, according to an IIHS spokesman. It turns out the Soul is an overachiever. The 2,860-pound vehicle was able to handle a peak force of 17,851 pounds, which is 6.24 times its weight."

Can’t fathom this stunt. A “48 yr old extreme sports and mountaineering woman sets a record by crawling into a cave in Alhambra area in Southern Spain for 500 days. Almost no contact with outside world. They brought food, water and removed poo. She read 60 books knitted and exercised but wanted no news from the outside medical staff at 3 Spanish University’s did health monitoring

She emerged today from the cave but said she could do another 500 days !
