As for bucket list, I don't really have a bucket list as such as it's more places I want to go and explore as future destinations for work. If I wasn't working, then my dream trip would be to heliski to AK. That's definitely happening when I hit the big 5-0. Other than that, the next places once the pandemic has calmed down that I will be visiting, should be:

Macedonia,
Kosovo,
Siberia,
Kamchatka,
Greece,
Turkey,
Mt. Elbrus,
Further exploration of Republic of Georgia,
Uzbekistan,
Kazakhstan,
Corralco and Antillanca in Chile,
Argentina,
Slovenia,
Iran,
Lebanon.

That should keep me busy for a while....

I'm going to put the NEW Perfect Timberline Mountain West By GAWD Virginia in the bucket list. Ya, I've been there 3 times already under the previous management, but only the first time was really good. I want to check out the new and improved model now.

Now which one is your favorite?

That's the million $ question right there! All are very different and it does depend on the conditions of the day. The terrain is the only consistent.... I don't have a favorite, but I have a top 5 or 6. So, in no particular order.....

Telluride - lived there for 9 years, so I know the mountain really well. It's a spectacular place, amazing scenery and a magic mountain and for me the best aspect was the sidecountry and ease of access to it. I've had some of the runs of my life through Bear Creek. You can hike as far as you want and get as scary as you like, there is genuine no-fall zone skiing that rivals Europe on the Wasatch Face. You get to ski back to a chairlift at the end of it, it's amazing. You definitely need your a-game in the San Juans with the sensitivity of the snowpack.

San Joaquin.JPG

Gulmarg - lift accessible heli-ski terrain, minus the pricetag. Skiing in the Himalayas is as cool as it sounds. One of the world's highest gondolas that takes you to the (near) top of a huge mountain that gets a lot of snow and doesn't have enough people physically skiing it for it all the runs to get tracked up. You could ski there for 2 weeks straight and be guaranteed fresh lines everyday. There's very few places in the world where you can consistently do that, at a resort. You've got a long way to go to get there, but once you are there, for the right person, it's a paradise.

20190312_123040.jpg

St. Anton was definitely a mind-opener. I was there to work during a really tough season-work-wise, so only free-skied a bit, but the mountains are legit and the off-piste is pretty amazing. If you know where you are going there, you could have an amazing time (no pictures unfortunately.....)

Georgia has amazing potential, the mountains and terrain are amazing and the culture is unforgettable. It's dirt cheap too and you could easily ski there for 2 weeks (including flights and accom, lift tickets etc) cheaper than traveling interstate to Vail or one of the other major CO resorts for 1 week. Your money goes a long way in Georgia. The scenery is stunning. Where else could you ski tour up to a monastery and meet a monk who is an avid backcountry skier. There's old towers and castles everywhere and the local wine is really good. If you haven't been to Georgia, you need to check it out!

20190331_122009.jpg

Chile - I LOVE going down to South America and skiing at Nevados de Chillan. I absolutely love this place. I'll explore more of Chile (especially the south) in the near future (Corralco and Antillance are next!). The terrain is sick, there's hardly anyone skiing off-piste and it's super easy to get first tracks. If you have touring gear then you can always ski untouched lines. There's steep lines and easy lines, something for everyone. The snowpack is pretty stable, which is a nice change. The food is awesome (gotta love red meat) and the locals are really friendly. It's great beating the heat and heading south in the summertime.

20190812_112000.jpg

Finally, Japow! I still have a lot of exploring to do and I'm gradually making my way south. I love Hokkaido and Tohoku, the two places I know so well. You definitely go to Japan for the snow quality and the culture. There's not a lot of steeps and huge vertical, but the ability to ski dozens of short but sweet laps, is high. If you tour, then you'll have a really good time but it's not always necessary. The bang for the buck is high! I have lot's of favorite resorts there but I'd have to say that my favorite resort might be one that I still haven't gotten the best out of yet. I can't say which resort this is, but with a little bit of hiking from the top lift, you can get to a stand of trees that are so perfectly spaced, with a nice pitch, that in thigh deep snow, they would be an absolute dream. I've skied them in some pretty good conditions, but I'm still waiting on that perfect day. When it comes, I will be in heaven!

20190206_101758.jpg

There's so many fun, exotic, adventurous places that I need to check out. This list is just getting started. Can't wait to find my next favorite resort once this pandemic is over.....

I think that's it. Bucket list? Possibly British Columbia, but I'd be content to revisit the some of the places I've already been.

I've logged in at least 83 resorts. Some time ago I pulled a list of North American resorts from Wikipedia so I just pulled names from that list.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_North_American_ski_resorts

Favorites: resorts, like children are all special. Some more than others. So like a parent I'll just say I love them all. When thinking about this, I find memories of time spent with people have at least as much impact as the nature of the hills.

Bucket list: just keep adding to the count
