Another lap on a favorite loop with the out and back on Back Door thrown in for good elevation and sweet single track descent. I'm finding I enjoy the single track downhills more fun than the TTF descents.

The wildflowers are really going off. Rain almost every afternoon for at least the last week has had good impacts on the trails and flora. We are still a long way from ending the drought despite appearances.

The mushrooms are out in all their glory, too.

We went for an adventure over the weekend. There was mud, bugs, and some really great views. At one point went tested how well a fat bike floats, it floats just fine with out the rider on it. Mid-point of the ride we stopped at a public use cabin to check it out for potential future bike packing type adventures. We took our sweet time with this ride, out there on the trail for just about 5 hours to cover 15 miles and 2200ft of climbing. It wasn't about the destination, it was about the adventure and the views.

After four days off the bike due to smoke, an hour of rain yesterday knocked down the smoke, temperatures and dust...

Advanced apologies, we went on an incredibly beautiful ride today and I took a bunch of pictures and tried to pick the best for this post. Our group had never ever been on this trail before because it was completed in 2019 and then a forest fire went through the entire area and the trail was closed, then 2020 happened and we never made it out there. If you are curious, it's called Mastadon Trail in the Chena River State Recreation area about 30 miles outside of Fairbanks Alaska. We didn't make it too the cabin at the end of the trail, but that wasn't the point of the ride. End of the day we had done 18 miles, 2200 feet climbed and spent around 5.5 hours outside enjoying life.

Our group of five had one tubeless flat from dried up sealant and one pretty bad crash with a split open chin. We all were just about out of water by the end of it as no one had been expecting the temps to climb into the 80's but we made it!

The best part, the fireweed was EVERYWHERE! From mile 3 (bridge in the pictures) all the way to mile 9 when we turned around, it was fireweed and burn scar.

Finally, some rain up here in Northwestern Montana. Riding should be astounding starting tomorrow. Pics to follow!

Love the fireweed! A patch of fireweed began behind my house about 10+ years ago & has grown every year since. It is about the only color left by August most years.

Well, this doesn't really do the fireweed justice, but you get the idea. Too smoky for any vista-style shots, but the dirt was superb today.

On a whim, I decided to slap a coil-spring Marzocchi Z1 on the Slash. Holy buttery goodness, Batman! It just erases sharp-edged stuff, in a way no coil fork I've ever sampled does.

Now on the hunt for a 140 coil fork for the Fuel EX. No Z1 with that amount of travel. Opinions welcome!

Park City last night . ended up going into the thick Aspens on a trail called John's just before sunset.

It's been over a decade, but I still remember that trail being as much fun as humans should be allowed to have.

Never ending corners, right?!

that's for sure man! turn after turn through the tight trees . so much fun! well until i smashed my pinky on a tree. haha .
I think John’s was the first trail I ever rode in PC. At the time (15 or 20 yrs ago) it was my new ATF! Skis or bike, I like to turn.

Some decent air today, so I snapped a pic of The Split Rock (not the lighthouse, @Slim).

Looks much cooler from the other side, but nobody wants to see a lousy, backlit shot, right?!
