The length is in feet and inches so would guess they were built in the U.S. Other than that, no clue.

Show a picture of the tips. that could help. Do they have metal edges?

Those skis are not unlike the first skis I had in 1944. The bear trap toe with leather strap, the non-inter locking edges, the shape of the skis to accommodate the bear trap toe and its screws, and the lack of a (beg your pardon) nipple on the tip make me guess their age as mid-forties. Oh yeah, they don't appear to be be laminated also an indicator of age. Those first skis of mine had a spring and latch on the heel end of the cable which was supposed to release in a forward fall, rather than the Kandahar front throw arrangement Mind you this is from my experience in Colorado during WW2. The skis to me are generic of the time. Could they be Northland? Sure or any other maker of the time. During the 1940's it's possible that most skis being made in the US went to the US Army. so these could even be from an earlier era. I could go on and on but will spare you more or my cloudy memories. Try contacting Seth Masia at www.skiinghistory.org for more info, or more correct info.

Anyone have a notion about the pole baskets? The black, rubber or resin material instead of a leather-supported metal hoop makes me think late 1940s to early 1950s. Or a later changeover.

From the photo of the tops , they looked a lot like the skis my parents used in the late 30s (stored in our baseemnt in the 1950s), but the metal edges, revealed in the pics of the bases, indicate a later era, so late 40s or even early 50s.

In the 50's for sure (I remember helping Dad do this in the garage),and probably the 40's, it was not unusual for people to route out their skis and install metal edges. I don't remember any solid wood skis in the 50's. We also used to paint on our bases, that could be what si being seen there.
But I don't remember a lot of stuff.

My guess is that the skis are either Paris or Wilson--either late 30's or late 40's. As I recall Wilson skis were sold without metal edges but as pointed out above, edges could have been installed.
