Driving from San Jose by Monday evening 3/4/2024 I expect to be in Reno and unless someone has a simpler option for me, sleep on the sly at a downtown casino parking lot in my Forester comfortably set up back bed. Then Tuesday 3/5/2024 at sunrise will drive up NV-431 to Mount Rose Main Lodge per gathering. After the ski day, later that night after après will stay at TBD cheap 2-star downtown Reno lodging.

Wednesday 3/6/2024 sunrise will drive US395 south then NV-207 west to the Heavenly Boulder lot. Wednesday night will be TBD cheap Carson City lodging so Thursday 3/7/2024 I can at sunrise drive US50 west and NV-28 north to Diamond Peak.

I am not sure what playing cards has to do with anything but whatever. Will see you in SLC next month.

I've noticed that getting from Reno lodging to Tahoe ski resort areas inexpensively is limited, complicated, and won't get one to resorts when the gathering groups get together early mornings to decide whatever. For $$$ there are shuttles, uber, lyft, taxis. Also renting AWD 4WD vehicles able to pass through chain controls has always been a can of worms I'm not currently familiar with. As noted above, I will be lodging TBD somewhere in Reno downtown on Tuesday evening after the après. The next day Wednesday won't be going to Palisades to ski with the group but rather Heavenly because I bought no PT lift tickets. (Palisades ogsmile (and all other Sierra Nevada resorts ogsmile) ought be letting poor mr dave ski for free any as a easy fun on lift rides golden age senior improving the net percentage of good moguls everywhere he skis. ogsmile)

However I was planning on driving in my old AWD Forester west from the SFBA Monday afternoon across I80 to Reno and sleep in my Forester as I often do on the sly about downtown. Even though my vehicle will have a lot of usual gear and 2 pairs of my own skis, I do have enough space to pick up before sunrise then fit 1 or 2 people here for the fun, m or f [hey, little mr dave at 137# uses designed for females smaller skis and gear], lodging in Reno on Tuesday 3/5 going to and from Mount Rose since they will only be bringing ski gear and not other baggage still at their lodging.

Please, please, please if you’re considering sleeping in your car during a blizzard. Carbon monoxide poisoning and death is real. We’ve lost too many lives to it in Tahoe, including a colleague in 2020.

Thanks for the reminder as some may end up doing so not aware of its dangers.

Unprepared people put in such a situation often have inadequate clothing or winter level sleeping bags so end up running their car engines with heaters on. As someone that has in the past spent numbers of nights in below zero F degree temperatures, that is common by dawn in Truckee Meadows and Hope Valley due to cold air sumping canyon narrowing damming, will relate regardless of how warm one heats up the air inside a vehicle cabin, as soon as one turns an engine off, it is surprising how quickly in just a few dozens of minutes air temperatures become cool then cold again. All those with experience that sleep in their vehicles use winter sleeping bags. A way people that rely on running their car engines die is when snow depth reaches the height of their exhaust pipe that first melts snow at pipe ends that then freezes to a growing blocking ice plug. Backed up exhaust with carbon monoxide then invades passenger compartments.

Note this person that also used to winter snow camp, has been sleeping in such cold within my Subaru's for decades. Recall more than once having during dark wee hours of large dumps to P and also get outside in the old Squaw Valley parking lot and dig a hole around my pipe. Actually with a good goose down bag, I only much ever ran my engine during evenings in order to hold onto books for reading or eating food. After its lights out, I'm cozily inside a bag for hours.
