In the UK, indoor slopes are quite popular. I think the trick is to run them like feeder hills in metropolitan areas that have airports with cheap flights to ski airports.

You don't want to be opening them in areas with mountains in the immediate vicinity or trying to market them as destinations in and of themselves (with prices to match).

If I were looking to open one, I'd seriously look at the DFW area, ideally in one of the suburbs between the two cities.
