Peak Skis is currently having a sale.

They have raised $800k so far versus their $1.2m goal. Shockingly someone recently "invested" $100k and someone else just "invested" $50k. I sure hope those people are extraordinarily wealthy.

Meanwhile they just put their skis on sale for 35-45% off. Get 'em while they're hot!
Given the mark-ups on skis, Peak is not losing money at 35-45% off. As a matter of fact, this kind of discounting is routine in the industry. Even if they give a Patroller or Snowsports instructor 50-60% off, they still aren't losing money!

As to what well-to-do people do with their money: They will often take a flier on a long shot. In this case, the product continues to get excellent reviews, which well might lead to a good investment outcome. I've yet to see a bad review of the Peak product.

Watch a small portion of the video. Too boring to sit through the whole thing. Guy likes to listen to himself talk.
Anyway, that guy's skiing sucks. Pointless to listen to his drivel when there isn't skill to back it up.
Kind of stupid to test a 104 on a hard pack day. He doesn't have enough skill to keep them from chattering. Simple park and ride.

The reviews I can really put money on are those of decent skiers I have skied with. We have been on the 88 and they are really nice.

I agree with your comments, as proof he put his buddy on the peak skis on another video. His buddy is a true expert skier and he loved them. Interesting that Elliot never acknowledged skill as a cause of the different opinions. Elliot must be one of those skiers who skis black diamonds

Dude, he grew up racing in the East. Says so in damn near every video. He’s gotta be an expert…

Yeah, I agree, pretty much - but I found his review truthful, for him (if misleading for anyone who can ski pretty well) -
even though I like Peak skis in a way that guy can't seem to access. At least he got it right about the Peak skis liking slush.

(And that dampness he likes, in spite of how lightweight these skis feel, that's got to be one effect of the keyhole, sure seems like.)

To me it's a fairly accurate good intermediate's to low advanced's point of view, in a sport where so many good intermediates think
they are advanced or more.

I would not recommend these skis for even a good intermediate - then they can feel like different skis in different situations,
in the way he had difficulty with skiing and describing. They can seem to fall apart at times for an intermediate, unlike a lot of other skis.

When I got on my first Peaks (98), I tried to ski them with different styles, with different skiers in mind.
When I watch this guy's skis slip instead of carve or flex, and I see his arms swinging around with every turn,
yeah, I would not recommend the 98 Peak skis for him, let along the 104.

(To me, the 104 especially likes us being able to feel out that ski and do what it does best, as a starting point.
And you take it from there, into a lot of creative fun.

And that 104 ski likes a lot of short and medium turns in soft snow, so not sure where this fellow got the idea
it likes only SG long turns on open slopes - kind of the opposite of what it likes, actually.
And skied half right, it's a very fast and versatile turner, really subtle and dialed in that way - and amazing on a soft snow,
off piste/bump day.)

When I am at speed and hit uneven terrain on the 98 or 110, I wanna be skiing with some of a racer's style,
driving forward on edge, laid over a bit, skiing in that general way, rather than as a pivoter or more upright skier or sideslipping skier.
These skis can feel like weird planks when skied just with slip-sliding and aiming across the mountain with defensive
or lazy/out of balance skiing in variable conditions. But to me, they are easy and relaxing if you ski in the fall line pretty well,
with just a small bit of racing style - angulating. Easeful.

Here you go

Well after Skiing the 88's for three days and the 104's for three days at Snowbird 10 days ago in really good snow quality, I didn't experince any of the negative feeling the tester experienced, First, I don't give crap about the top sheet , second I had no , Zero, problems initiating a turn or for that matter different turn shapes, I once in 6 days had ONE turn I felt the tails giving me a problem, but I was way out of shape, back on heels, shoulder over rotated. I was on perfect snow not frozen snow he was on, that may change my opinion but I would be on my Blossom M 77 in those conditions.

I've watched a few of his reviews. He does Ok. But like anyone on YouTube, you need to take everything he says with a grain of salt. A few thoughts:
  • He leans heavily on "I'm a former racer out east." I originally thought USSA High-Seed/Low Point or Academy type skier. Most of his skiing is POV, so it's hard to really ascertain skill, but his shadow and style did not fit what I expected.
  • He tends to slam Ski Monster and others for simple videos with generalities or basic tricks. His videos are full of personal opinion and advice--which is his draw. People are drawn to actual opinions, whether they are right or misplaced is another issue.

Apparently he's got enough clout that the legendary Bode himself responded to the review.

So he is one of the social media influenza. Just as pesky as the real life influenza.

It also points to how clueless many are out there. :nono:
