Spanish Paella anyone? PM me if you'd like the recipe as I lived in Spain for many years and tuned this to Valenciana standards!

Some snow over Austin Summit on 50 in Nevada.

About 8" of snow over Carroll Summit on Highway 722. The sign that suggests 20mph is a serious suggestion when it's dry. Let's just say if you're going to slide off the road, slide to the right.

Yesterday, Tuckerman Ravine. Snow was fantastic late afternoon. Too bad there wasn’t a lift. It’s a long way up there though. Where the guy is hiking in the middle, ends in this-

It’s pretty steep. Probably equivalent to hiking Wide Willy’s at Abasin. Never done that though. The real steep part is the Lip, around 50 deg. It hasn’t had snow on it for awhile though.

That's a major grunt up (because you've probably done at least 25 miles already) and a thrilling ride down on a bike.

Doug is correct. We entered Island in the Sky district at 6PM Thursday. I was upset because we were so late. Turned out to be low crowds, beautiful temps, and we saw gorgeous sunset. Left that district about 9PM. Magnificent three hour visit.

Jim, you're at the Shafer Trail Scenic Viewpoint in the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park. Depending upon whether it's ridden in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction, that is the beginning descent or the ending ascent of the White Rim Trail mountain bike ride if started or ended near the visitor center. Those are the La Sal Mountains on the horizon. BTW, I just returned to my home yesterday evening after spending just over a week in the Capitol Reef N.P. backcountry and Bryce Canyon N.P. The traffic heading south on I-15 from the Wasatch Front for the long holiday weekend witnessed while I was heading north was truly horrifying. It was a 60-plus-mile-long, slow-moving cluster of RVs, motorcycles, 4x4s, etc. first encountered around Santaquin and continuing all the way up to and through Utah Valley and over Point of the Mountain to Sandy, where I exited I-15. I imagine it continued for a few dozen more miles up through the rest of the Salt Lake Valley all the way to at least Ogden. Glad to see you're getting around to experience some of Utah's stunning scenery beyond the Wasatch!

Andy, I'm curious what caused you to travel along NV highway 722 and over Carroll Summit? Almost nobody drives that road, the weather you experienced not withstanding! Years ago I set out on a daylong loop bike ride beginning and ending in Austin incorporating NV 722 with NV 50 into the route. I could ride very long distances on NV 722 without seeing a vehicle traveling in either direction. That highway makes NV 50 look somewhat busy, which it definitely is not (or at least never used to be)!

Ah Right. Across the "street." I knew sort of where because we drove that in about 2013. It was exciting in our old jeep Cherokee. When we got to the bottom my DH said, that's good enough; never need to do that again! Sort of like hiking Angel's Landing in Zion or perhaps skiing Corbet's. (though I've not done that and know I'm well past the due date on ever doing it.)
