During conversations with a few different people recently, it struck me that in a group of 5, every one of us liked something different about mountain biking. Some liked features and jumps, some liked flowing flat sections, some liked climbing, some liked rocky terrain, some liked smooth trails.
What is even more interesting is that we all liked something slightly different but we were enjoying the same ride together.

You can vote for up to 6 selections in the poll

I mean, I love it all... The only thing that really gets to me is exposed rock with wheel-eating cracks going in the same direction you're traveling and you can't avoid.

Flowy undulating terrain by a long shot.

I ride for fun and fitness. A little sufferings is ok. Some tech is ok. Flowy twisty turny fun is my jam. I confess we have hardly ridden trails at all this year because everything near us is rocky and rooty with steep climbs. Nearest place with smoother trails and good flow is almost and hour and a half drive. Maybe head there next weekend.

Me too!
I tolerate the slog of a climb so I can enjoy the flowy undulating down hill.
Phil, on the other hand, loves the climb and tolerates the downhill.

I love it all, but if I had to pick one thing -- ahem, missing from your poll -- it would be THE TURN.

Also my favorite part of skiing, windsurfing, whitewater kayaking (retired).......

Or maybe the flowers:

Or maybe the cool stuff you see 100 yards off the trail:

In complete transparency, NOW I like to climb...before....not so much. The climbs are now like flowy flats.

You're missing some categories
Commune with Nature. See the animals and the flowers
Fresh air and exercise. It doesn't all have to be climb, climb. climb
Riding through the forest. This is my favourite,
Tricky singletrack ( in the forest a bonus)

I like variety & checked the first 6 boxes on the poll + when riding with friends I'll do whatever & am happy to ride a different pace or terrain, at least if it is at or below my pay grade.
I would add that one of the main attractions to me is just to be out in some incredible vistas & environments.

Aren't the two in bold kinda the same?

Since noone voted for the last selection, I'll add yours to it.

No. You can see the animal and flowers anywhere, but the forest is a special place. It is hushed, no wind, shaded, tranquil. You can see flora and fauna too, but its not out in the hot sun. Theres a closeness , like skiing in the trees

I mostly HATE steep climbs and love almost everything else.

Is that THE campsite on Gooseberry? Overlooking the old horse corral? If not, it appears to be its equal. :beercheer:
