I've been watching the windchill at LL range from -10* to -15*. That's bone chilling stuff you're dealing with!

It was 0° at the base when we got there at 7:45 (another easy trip, though), and you could literally see the cold sitting on the mountain. I bet it was -20 to -25° wind chill on 8 on the upper lift. We did two runs over there and bolted for the base.

Incidental cryotherapy likely.

We took our allotted 30 mins indoors and had bearably warmer second half. Snow warmed just a bit and got faster, surface conditions are still wind groomed everywhere.

South Chutes was really good, we didn’t bother with 9 as reports were the snow wasn’t great and didn’t head back to 8 given the absolute freezer over there with wind out of the NW. A lot of people up on 9 working it in the afternoon though, including some poaches back into Patrol Bowl.

My hands paid a price to bring you these pics:hug:

Nice display of snow blowing off the continental divide as seen from the front range this afternoon. That's looking up around the Rollins Pass area where the ski train goes under the divide to WP, with the Flatirons in the foreground on the right. Pano on hold today? ;)

Steamboat was great today, only had one day there but it was well worth the drive. Might be my new favorite in CO...

Day 6 of Colorado trip. Breckenridge.

Started out at the base of Peak 8. Pleasantly surprised at the lack of line.

Kept going skier right until I ended up at Peak 10. Soft conditions in The Burn.

Worked my way back down the peak numbers, met up with my son for lunch, then spent the afternoon on Peaks 7 and 6. More soft snow on and around Nirvana.

Tomorrow will be our last day skiing, closing out the trip with a 2nd day at Breck.
If anyone else will be around tomorrow and would like to get some runs with us, let me know.

Skied Breck today and man it was a nice day. Mountain was generally empty, zero wind, groomers were in top shape.

Found some leftover pow in my usual spots...that I shall not name.
Horseshoe Bowl was skiing superb today with nice chalk and minimal bump-age in the middle of the bowl.
Imperial was good too. Didn't do the hike to the top of 8 today, maybe tomorrow.

'Troller says its not looking good for getting Whales Tail & Upper Peak 7 open this season. Would need some massive snow in the next 2-3 weeks, but with conditions how they are, short staffed this season, and covid rules not looking like some of that stuff will open this year.

Caught the Patrol Bowl opening yesterday at Loveland. Crazy rocky traverse below the huge crown with avy debris below. Needless to say it was terrible. #4 Headwall was good. So was ripping down groomers under a blue sky. No wind and not cold. Enjoyed some deck time at one of the great lodge decks there.

Crazy to heard Peak 7 terrain won’t open! So sad. My favorite Breck run is top of Imperial, traverse and drop over to 7, ski the steep fall line of CJ’s, down into Ore Bucket and then rip the groomers of 7 to the lodge.

The snow wasn't Steamboat quality but hard to beat a weekday at A-Basin, never really waited at all in a lift line and of course the views are pretty solid. Only A-Basin would call one of their toughest blue runs loafer, watched a few people go down it unsuspectingly.

Breck again today, almost a carbon-copy of Monday.

They opened Senerity Bowl hiking terrain on Peak 6 this afternoon for the first time all season.
That was a nice treat. A mix of about a foot of consolidated pow, punchy wind crust, and buffed chalk.
Did it three times was worth it.

Patrol said, that Sixth Sense area is about ready to go, but they can't open that area until Peak 7 opens which isn't likely this season.

Pet peeve of mine is people who sprint up the hike and try to pass everyone, then part way up then stop, keel-over, short of breath, drop their gear, and block the boot-pack. You know, maybe if you just kept a steady pace instead you wouldn't have to do that. Also, who are the people who p@#$ in the bootpack there? Come on man!

'Slow and steady wins the race' is my popular refrain as I step past the young 'uns.

In theory, patrol sets the boot line, but snowboarders and people racing to the top f' it up. Snowboarders because they can't really 'toe in' to the steps and the fast guys because they don't take the time to 'toe in'.

I skied practically all morning at Breck today. Groomers were a bit firmer than usual due to the warm temps yesterday. Warm again today. Cloudless and wind free.

Evidence of why Peak 7 is not yet (and may not?) open.

The vertical rock band that you have to cross from Whale's Tail to 7 (without climbing to the summit) is very wide.

George's is just plain rocky with a smattering of snow. As I haven't been up on Imperial, I wonder if the traverse from the lift to Whale's tail is passable on skis. From this angle it doesn't look like it is.
