we got a nice surprise storm last night. The mountain got about 9", Emerald is my back yard and up about 500' there was a good 4". I went out a little to late, by 11, the temps were 28 in the sun and the snow was greasy on the steeper sections but it was still a great ride and I got to break trail on a flowy trail called Larrys. Got to test out the Bontrager Old Man Winter Pants and Boots. Awesome combo. the boots are fantastic and they integrate well with the Pants. I'll write more later. The first pic is of a memorial that was installed this summer for a local guy who was instrumental in developing the trail system on Emerald and elsewhere.

I got what might be the last best FB ride here yesterday. Fast smooth pack on the way out, dumping on the way back. Now warmth might goof things up for awhile.

Here is a pic from my FB thread, which -- ahem -- was apparently judged to be inadequate? ;) Maybe they could be merged.

Note the wild man line down the stairs. FB FTW!!!

An attempt at some art from today's ride:

Fat Bike 2020 #6.JPG

This place needs 10 fat bikers that agree on an established "winter loop". Without that, it's not going to last.......but skiing, then!

wasn't able to ride today. Winds were consistent at 25-40 all day. not good to ride in the trees. Tomorrow is another day. I plan on riding all winter so lets keep it going.

Mad props for riding down stairs in general. I haven't been able to get up enough courage to ride down even a small set of stairs.

Next ride is planned for the upcoming Tuesday, our group of two is expanding to three as the third just picked up a second hand fat bike this weekend.

We've warmed up a bit. Got a quickie today, before lunch with the in-laws, so no time for any pics.

Firm and good on the way out, but getting soggy and starting to break up on the way back.

Until today, it appeared that we completely missed shoulder season, instead going straight into winter. Not so sure, now.

57 here.... slushhhhhhhhhh.

46 here today. Time to give the legs a rest, and catch up on "real" work and setting up the new garage and shop, I guess. :(

Yeah, im really bummed, UPS has now delayed the shipment of my tires twice, I I took my Barbagazi's off in preparation( they were supposed to be delivered yesterday) and Im not going to remount them for 2 days. But, Boot fitting today, Skiing Wednesday. Another storm is supposed to hit this weekend so at this point, I just want the bike to be ready to roll by then.

We went riding on Tuesday, ride plan was to follow the grooming track until we either got cold or ran out of trail. The trails seemed to have just had the groomer run through them and were just about perfectly smooth. I've never seen them this smooth before, gotta remember to do a trail donation to the dog mushing club as they are doing some great work this season already. It was a perfect introduction for our friend and his new fat bike, -20 for the entire ride and he still had fun! Now he just needs to get some actual lights.. his little 400lumen Nightrider barely made it through the ride.

I work on the playground of my daughters’ elementary school, and it’s always fun to ride up to work and braap down the stairs in front of the kids.

Our snow is waning, so I tried out a new area around Kalispell today. Mixed hardpack, a bit icy, and lots of bare dirt. Fun stuff, but lots of climbing. The second pic is a simple little memorial to a guy I had the privilege of sharing several 100 mile mtb racecourses with. He was a force, and so damn fun on the race course, and was taken FAR before his time. A bittersweet day, for sure.

Snow continues to wane. This is the same spot as in post 3. Two hour, sixteen mile ride. Only sorta-kinda "needed" a fatbike for one mile each way. Still fun--and still rode the stairs!
