Seems like Oct. 26 picture shows more cloud cover than snowpack, especially over the Bay Area and Pacific Ocean. But it makes for a good story.

Another Tahoe October opening.

My last Oct skiing was Halloween 2004 at Boreal. It was free if you were in costume so I wore hospital scrubs. I also skied Veteran’s Day that Fall at Kirkwood.

And you can thank me for the Oct. 29 openings as that is the day I’m leaving for a week in Cabo, booked many months ago. But I should be able to start my season by mid-Nov vs. Jan. 6 last year.

After the epic bomb cyclone, dry forecasts rose so many of we experienced enthusiasts including those that manage resorts have probably been wondering if another of those common frustrating long early season dry spells would occur during November that would likely melt down much of what resorts received. Such may still occur however models are now cracking a small smile though turkeys are still in a panic heading out to hide in the bushes.

The storm door looks to open again the first week of November with
several systems possible. At this point, none of the storms look
especially strong...
Ensembles are pointing toward another weak system late in the week
with additional storms looking more likely after November 7. CPC

6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks

BA’s season forecast was fairly optimistic for a La Niña year. Actually a real interesting read if you have it. Long story short…cold water in PAC NW may offset some negatives that came into play least year.
