Caught this guy Saturday, 15.5 inches, my biggest crappie this season...

Cooked it for my wife, baked it. She ate the whole thing left a few bones. I skinned it, but left the bones in. It pulls right off the bones, really nice...

North Atlantic Black Sea Bass caught yesterday fishing with two friends. We had to stop fishing early because we limited out. Ten fish per person all had to be over 12.5 inches to be a keeper. We had 30 fish and we're back at the dock by noon.

The sea bass are going off this year. The guys at the bait shop say once those bass go offshore away from rocks the trawlers will scoop them all up.

The commercial trawlers are always on the opposite side of the sport fisherman. Especially the fluke, the commercial guys can keep 14 inch fish but the sport fisherman can only keep the 18 inch fish. That is always one thing that bothers me about the Atlantic Fish and Game people don't treat the sport fisherman the same as the commercial guys.

I dropped the tequila on them yesterday. Its what I call this jig because it looks like a tequila sunrise. I showed a pic of this jig in my last post, with another jig that is chartreuse. I fish with that chartreuse jig in the afternoon, you know why? Becuase it looks like a margarita. This strategy only works with Texas crappie tho. But I tell yeah, when I drop the tequila on them, they don’t know what hit’em. Bonus fish tip, color does matter with umbrellas too. It’s very important that it matches your boat.

I was out in the Atlantic today and we caught fluke aka summer flounder. The guys that owns the boat got one over 3 lbs. We didn't catch our limit but we all caught fish, it was a good day.

We had hoped to get a day of fishing while in Alaska, but didn't line up conveniently.
We did spend some time in Seward wandering around the harbor and saw some beautiful salmon minding their own business.
Quite relaxing to watch.

Hiked over Mono Pass (12K ft) into Pioneer Basin to chase Brooks and Goldens. There's 7 lakes in the area and the accompanying streams. Most of the streams were really low and the fish really small. It's the lakes that held the "interesting" fish.

Pan sized brook and golden for a meal from Lake #3

This year I was wanting to fish a top US Crappie lake in US. I was ready to make a road trip. Did a little research, found out top US spots right here in Texas. My favorite lake is Fork, it is #2! Figured I stay in Texas this season, but Grenada Lake Mississippi is on my bucket list.

Do they have any limits on how many you can keep in one day?

I bet they are good to eat, fried with beer batter.
Many would say they are the best eating freshwater fish. They are very easy to clean, all white meat, no blood line. I have never had them go smelly in the fridge, and I have left them in there for days. Legal size 10 inches, and that size is a great eating fish. I catch and keep them in multiples of 3, that is how freeze them. 3 is a good size meal for one person, that is 6 fellets.

I fry them with "Louisiana fish fry New Orleans style", corn meal bass, while the are moist, drop them in a plasitc bag with the fish fry, then in peanut oil 350 degrees, 2 minutes is all it takes for small ones . I made a post earlier how I fry them, I do fried oysters the same way. Never tired beer batter.

All blacken them too on cast iron with a little butter, they very delicate fish and will fall apart easy on the flip as can bee seen...

Fishing for muskie in Michigan, but the lake was loaded with crappies and some bass. No muskies, but caught a lot of the small guys. These were two of the larger ones. Caught with #5 Mepps spinners, the biggest with red and white on brass with brown bucktail. This color combo has proven itself in the past with many northern pike and three muskies in one week.

That is for certain larger models made exclusively for muskie and freshwater trophy fishing. My father-in-law that taught me pike fishing caught many more than the rest of his family put together using #4 and #5 with a spinning rod, not the special muskie set-ups typically used with the Killers.
