I went for a hike this past Sunday that took place inbounds at Solitude and Brighton and included out-of-bounds terrain between Solitude, Brighton, and Alta. I started at the carpark at Solitude's village, heading up to the top of Corner Chute, then following the SolBright trail to just below Twin Lakes dam. There I entered Brighton skiing/riding terrain and traversed over to the cat track leading up to the top shack of the Millicent chairlift and climbed Mt. Millicent to the summit. This photo is of one of the four French Gazex remote avalanche control devices strategically positioned high on the slopes of Mt. Millicent. Downslope is the upper station of the Millicent chairlift and one of Brighton's patrol shacks, with Twin Lakes further downslope.

This photo is of the Brighton loop road, which forms the upper end of BCC, and some of Brighton Ski Resort's base facilities. Some of the Guardsman Pass Road leading to both Park City and Heber City can be seen to the upper left of and straight above the loop road.

Heading toward Alta from Mt. Millicent, I followed the ridgeline to Wolverine Peak. On the shoulder of the peak I snapped this photo of a significant portion of Wolverine Cirque, a popular backcountry destination for local riders and skiers. Unfortunately, several deaths have also occurred here over the years, including well known skiers Roman Latta and Merrill Bitter.

From Wolverine Peak's summit I traversed over to the summit of Mt. Tuscarora, where I took this photo of Alta's Devils Castle.

After descending to Catherine Pass from Mt. Tuscarora, I continued to lose elevation while passing by Lake Catherine, Lake Martha, and Lake Mary, where I took this photo.

And later last week we stopped in the Hoh Rain Forest and took a hike. This is a giant tree root ball left over after a big one toppled over, with new, smaller trees growing out of it:

I'll be sharing a trip report of my full trip in the future, but here's a couple favorites (choosing favorites is no easy task here!).

Can't wait to read it!

I'm looking forward to your trip report.
Thought I'd post here that the full trip report is up in the Articles section LINK HERE. I know I sometimes I just scan the "New Posts" and tend to miss some articles, so thought I'd mention that it's out there :)

Is the last shot part of the WC venue?
No, it’s the early season death strip. Gondola up, walk down stairs mostly, then ski.
The wcup trail is Superstar, which pretty much goes down to the access road.

This is Superstar-

From May 30th, Memorial Day, this year. First two runs were nuts. They blew some snow on the top headwall this weekend. We passed someone coming down with his skis. I’m certain it was terrible.

Final pitch.

This past Sunday I combined a bike ride and hike, starting from my home in Cottonwood Heights. I cycled north along the east bench of the Salt Lake Valley until arriving at the mouth of Emigration Canyon. I rode up the canyon to Little Mountain Pass then down to Mountain Dell Reservoir, where I connected to East Canyon and ascended Big Mountain Pass. Here's a photo from the pass looking back toward the Salt Lake Valley.

I pushed my bike into the forest and locked it to a couple of decent-sized trees and headed downhill on the Mormon Pioneer Trail. After 4.55 miles of mostly mellow downhill hiking I arrived at the eastern trailhead located on Jeremy Ranch Road at Mormon Flat. After hydrating and consuming some food, I retraced my steps uphill to where I'd started the hike. Traveling both directions, I spotted this bull moose lying down a short ways off the trail (probably need to zoom in to see him hidden left of center in the vegetation). The sun is illuminating a portion of his antlers.

When I returned to Big Mountain Pass, there were several paragliders flying overhead. Here's a photo of one of them.

The ride home was mostly downhill, with a gentle tailwind pushing me southward once I arrived back in the valley.
