My emotional support pug came to work with me today. He sticks to me like a little tumor. I love him completely.

Thanks for the healing thoughts. Miss Remy pulled through the critical 48 hours where the doctor said she had a 50% chance of survival. I’ve been staying at a hotel 2 minutes down the street in case things went bad fast. Her kidney function is slowly improving (creatinine 4.7 —> 2.8) and her platelet count has gone from 20k up to 100k. Her liver function is declining and they don’t know why, and the prognosis is still very uncertain if she’ll walk out of there. But now language about “diagnosis” is being used by the internal medicine specialist more often than “difficult decisions”

She walked to our visits under her own power today and planted her claws when they tried to take her back. Here she is enjoying a nap with her favorite toy (Dino the Eldest). It is loud and bright and chaotic where she is, so the receptionist gave us a blanket and dimmed the lights and she flopped and started snoring immediately.

Any Remy updates?

I can’t believe it’s not England!
Any Remy updates?

The internal medicine specialist called this morning!

When I talked to them last night, her creatinine was down to 1.7, her platelets were low normal, and her bilirubin was down from a high of 8.5 to 6.9 so liver function was slowly improving. She was walking pretty confidently and tried to take the nurse out the front door instead of going back inside. They were able to drain the infected fluid pocket at her elbow and her leg is back down to muscles and tendons and not a water balloon. Last night was the first time I heard the internal medicine doc say she was happy (multiple times!) with results and her progress.

This morning, her creatinine is normal and her platelets are low normal. Bilirubin is 3.7 (other liver enzymes still elevated) but they like the trend. She ate enthusiastically for them without harassment or even stopping to sniff, and also took cheese and little chicken sausage treats from me when I visited just now. I don't want to get my hopes up, but she's bright and attentive, getting a little cranky about strangers again, and the specialist thinks if she continues like this she can come home tomorrow afternoon and continue care at home instead of in the ICU.

Contemplating whether she can get at the bag of chicken sausages without getting out of her nice warm blanket cocoon.
