I highly recommend taking a beacon, probe and shovel. Wolf Creek with that much snow and wind is a scary proposition.
Agreed. Some of the scariest times I've ever had pow skiing were on Alberta. I sunk up to my nipples in powder on a flat spot once and had to basically swim out.

Snowbowl was excellent yesterday. Full on base refresh and everything has filled back in. Next few days should be awesome up there.

I got stuck working an extra day in Kingman yesterday, so I missed today's feeding frenzy at the Snowbowl. Looking at the Pics, that might be a good thing! I'm in Flagstaff tonight, will ski the 'Bowl in the AM. Ah well, 9 days until my trip to Steamboat...

BTW, what's the word on the bump runs? (White Lightning, Upper Volcano, Casino, Tiger & Blackjack) Rocks in the troughs? Enough snow to make them OK? Looking to get my FUN on in the AM...

Wolf Creek does not have Adult group lessons, only private lessons, so that is what I did. To me a two-hour private was well worth the investment when learning a skill for the first time. The day was glorious, snow was fabulous. I learned some very useful technique strategies for both powder and the crud/chop that follows when trails get tracked out. The latter terrain I am somewhat familiar skiing, but powder that is more than a foot was a new experience. This is terrain that needs to be skied frequently to get comfortable with the subtleties required to manage it with success.
It may be sacrilege to prefer everything BUT powder for most , but for me , it will take more days of deeper fresh to attain any skill level worthy of a grin.

I was at Snowbowl yesterday for this insanity. It took about an hour to drive up the Mountain, and I wound up parking several lots below Hart Prairie. Didn't get on snow until 10:00am, which is unusual for me. That said, I was solo and took the singles line all day. Typically a 15 minute lift line, sometimes a bit longer and a couple of times I got through the line in about 5 minutes. I'm sure it was significantly longer if you're not in the singles line. No hot food was available for lunch when I went to order at Agassiz around 1:30pm.

Everything was tracked by the time I got to it, but it was still really nice, loose fresh snow conditions. Did Upper V, Casino, Blackjack, Tiger, and the Trees pretty much all day. Still a few rocks around but way better than when I was there a month prior. I'd expect today and tomorrow to be at least as crowded, if not worse.

Either of you have any Wolf Creek pics to share? How'd the powder learning go @kimberlin? :) (Note, @Bozzenhagen 's quote is from the "how many days" thread, but about Wolf Creek)
Attached. Let's say the powder at 4:00pm would be an amazing day in Summit County at 9:30am....
I know for sure the picture of Bankshot was taken around 2-3pm-ish on day 3 of the storm (yesterday).

FWIW, I skied the 'Bowl on Feb 25, after the last storm. Every bump run was outstanding, with 2 notable exceptions. Flat Iron remained a "rock-garden", not worth the effort of dodging obstacles. The Upper Bowl/"Hike-to's" remain closed, with good reason. Despite the recent snow, coverage remains thin and the new snow is clearly unstable, which is obvious when you look at the upper slopes.

Casino, Volcano, Tiger, Blackjack and White Lightning were all excellent!

FWIW, White Lightning was the outstanding run, assuming one could make the required turns. Back in the day, this was the run that established Expert status.... and last Friday was the most fun I've had on that run in years!

New snow is clearly unstable? How did you figure on that?

White Lightning is my favorite run on the mountain. It’s been skiing really good this year considering how thin the snowpack has been.

Up at azsb today. Crazy busy plus Agassiz is closed until further notice.

Off the record is that something struck from the sky and will be days to weeks and requiring European assistance for diagnosis.

this is why I don’t go up there on weekends and most powder days. I’d rather ski mank and moguls than deal with this.
