Looks like Crystal is staying open weekends through May. And running other lifts as long as they can before falling back to just Green Valley. It'll be a real shame if Alpental doesn't even do Cinco...
I’m thinking we could do a Crystal May Gathering.

I’m out of town May 6-8 and have family stuff the weekend of May 20-22, so maybe the 13-15th or closing weekend 27-30th (Memorial Day weekend). Any interest?

another day at Whistler ( Blackcomb) solo today so took a few photos. Empty slopes Skiing was pretty much as the rest of the week has been, a dusting, sunshine, random clouds. You can still can ski to parking however by 3-4 pm becomes fairly mushy on last 200-400 vertical. Sudan and backside of 7th heaven are still holding on to winter snow.

I'd almost forgotten about my recovery target of being able to ski non stop to valley by April.
So did it 3x today, I think I can ski again so what's this about a PNW meeting?

I'm out of town for Memorial Day weekend. I'd probably at least come say hi if I'm up at Crystal any other weekend.

Late season powder day at Timberline, Wed. April 27. Was 23F at 8:30AM and snowed most of the day. Warmed up and snow became wetter around noon. Took these photos during a break in the clouds/snow. Keep winter cold…do what you can.

Stevens Pass on Friday
We started skiing about 10:30 and that worked out about perfect. Most of the firm has changed to spring. It was a sunglasses and baseball cap kind of day. There was some high overcast here and there but it was mostly sunny. Seventh Heaven is now closed for the season. Too bad, as it would've skied really well today, however everything else was just really nice spring conditions. It never got sloppy and only a few places on the flats got sticky. In the spots where the piles got big you could still just plow right through them. Nothing that I would call a lift line on any of the lifts. The coverage is still really good. We had a group of five today which was a real treat. This will probably be my last day at Stevens Pass for the season, but what a day to finish out.

another day on Blackcomb, even managed about 1500 vertical of fresh tracks off the backside of Harmony. (spoiler alert the fresh was only about 2" deep)
However overall the snow is certainly holding up going into May.
Still skiing to parking lot with no bare spots. The pitch beneath the Horstman Hut even has enough snow to cover all the rocks. That's fairly rare at the best of times.

Fun spring day up at Crystal today. The mid-mountain was socked in the clouds to start the day, but the top was in sun right from the start. It was great riding up the chair first thing and breaking through the clouds. The sun finally did burn off all the clouds but it took a while, we were fighting visibility at times earlier in the morning. Turned into a fun day with a lot of good slush bumps. First brown snow sections I've seen on the open ski outs at Blackcomb.

Downloading might even be wise by this weekend. However still another 4-6 inches expected in the alpine before that.

An occasional random powder days in May is always appreciated, helps you forget those drizzle and fog days in November early December

Not many days left for me. Too many other options in May.

Blackcomb stayis open until our May 24 long weekend. Whistler is prepping for the bike crowd and then reopens same weekend.. Glacier skiing starts in June

another week ends at Blackcomb
still can ski to base (with a bit of work around) alpine still holds some pretty descent turns.
driving the sports car on the Sea to Sky never gets old but some serious sticker shock.
that's per liter there are 4.56 of those per gallon.

Better views than at Blackcomb today.
Varied from just foggy to pea soup. Alpine still skiing well fresh turns aplenty would have helped to see where the turns were taking you

Last stop on ski out today is now at the mid load on Excalibur at lot 6 no snow to village beyond that point

Downloading could be on tap this weekend even though over 40cm is expected in the alpine.

This is a very interesting read and the author documents a lot of neat history. I think he misses the mark here and there, but it's cool to see the conversation starting about expanding skiing in the Puget Sound region. Skiers' medium- and long-term interests in the region don't necessarily align with the profit motives of Vail, Alterra, and Boyne, so I think real solutions will need to come from skiers in the region. Conversations like this one are how solutions can get started.
