Another Peninsula ride today as last weekend's snow has left most of the local trails a bit wet to ride.

Buffalo (the mountain, not the animal ;) ) in the distance. The tread here was probably perfectly tacky yesterday.

A hummingbird decided he liked my bike but was confused about where the nectar was.

Ahh. Back on home turf. For the moment at least. More snow is in the forecast.

This was built as single track. Why do people do this? Does everything have to be easier and straighter? SMH

No hopes of skiing top to bottom if it snows as forecast.

I'm looking for a couple of parts that I don't know if they exist or if someone might have them in their parts bin.

First, this cap is from a 2002 RockShox fork. It cracked when I was adjusting the fork.

I tried searching for it to no avail.

Next, the real unicorn. Do/did 25.4 mm clamp diameter handlebars ever come in lengths approaching modern dimensions? 750mm or so? That would accept 2002 vintage levers and shifters?

Ok, you can stop laughing now. I'm trying to modernize (a little) my GF Sug 2+ to give to a friend that is considering mt biking. It has just been gathering dust since I retired it 5 or 6 years ago.

Feels good to be back in bike mode & fit in an 80 mile week.

Fun group ride yesterday with a bunch of old ski teachers of which half were on E-bikes & we seemed to integrate fine. I just had to get used to picking up the rear at times, glad it wasn’t dusty ;)

The shifters and grips will fit, that diameter hasn't changed. Getting 750mm width might be tough. I've run across some not bad bars but not that wide. The alternative is changing the stem. I just got new bars for I think $20 or something. I'm sure you can get a cheap stem for a similar price.

Thanks. Now I have to measure the steer tube.

I need a caliper. Just a basic one. So many times I'm trying to measure round things with a ruler. Not good. I know my Fox 34 has 34 mm stanchions but my Fox shock is ???. When they were last serviced they left the o-rings off and I want to replace them. I like to know if I'm approaching the limit of my suspension.

You can measure circumference and divide by Pi.. I supsect it's either 1" or 1 1/8". Probably the latter if it was a newer good MTB. I got a cheap brass caliper off amazon for like $5. It's good for 1 decimal metric mm measurements.

Any straight run like that without trees is bound to erode and get ridden to death.
This was a minor example of the re-aligning of trails in the area. I just happened to stop to wait for my partner and took the shot there.

There were originally obstacles to keep the track single, but those were 'sanitized'.

Kingdom Trails today. Also saw a flock of baby grouse basically cotton balls with legs. Their mom was doing the old broken wing distraction trick.

You're lucky they were hatched. A friend on mine once got pecked by a grouse while on his bike when we were close to a nest.

Twice.

HARD ENOUGH TO DRAW BLOOD.

Of course, during post-ride beers and BBQ, many Monty Python parallels were drawn......
