Another day, another variation. I'm taking it easy right now, as we are still waiting for a lot of the local terrain to dry out so we can connect some trails. That'll be delayed with this weekend's storm. I enjoy the peninsula and its trails that are typically the first to open, but it truly lacks in elevation.

I returned to the burn zone but made it a big loop instead of an out & back. Today I got photos.

Only a small portion of the burn area as I was riding in but where much of the ride is located

Some sections are gonna get some deep dust as summer progresses

The views are definitely more open. The green area is were civilization begins. Amazing work from the firefighters to protect all structures in the basin.

Did you mtb and skin like a fresh 16” in the same few days within a short hop of home?
Yes. MTB on Thursday at the Peninsula in Frisco...

Touring on Saturday at Breck...

This included a (very) minor 'wheeling' adventure driving from Beaver Run up to Ten Mile. Mostly just dicey traction on the snow covered mud. Heck a Subaru made it up there, albeit with a ton of snow in it's ground effects.

Well, since there seems to be no active road biking pic thread....

Got out for a quickie in Glacier National Park before the madness descends this weekend. Deep snow kept the ride short, but sweet. Not shown, in 8 miles, we pedaled past two pretty fresh piles of grizzly poo!

Rode up to the snow line on Armstrong pass today & then did an extra lap on Sidewinder/Corral. Trying to get some rides in here before they open the road & the shuttlers start showing up. Only saw a couple of people up there today.

This bridge collapsed under the big snow load in 2017 & took a few years to get funding for a rebuild. Thankfully it managed to escape the fire …

Lots of new & old little hits & features spread along the whole ride.
This is an old one

Warmest day of the year today, felt like summer! Snow showers forecast this weekend.

When does the road open? I wouldn’t mind beating the shuttle crew either. You doing the Sky Tavern Enduro?

The cobwebs are thick on my mtb skills even considering I haven't ridden that bike in 7 months. Very short shake out ride on the one trail that is dry and open so far. I felt more like I was along for the ride rather than riding my bike. As my wife and I climbed back up the access trail we decided that this particular trail is a horrible one to start off the season with anyways. It's almost entirely off camber, rooted, and tight between trees. The one thing it has going for it, is that it is the best drained trail in the area and is always rideable first by a good two weeks, and it is only a couple minutes away from our house. On the plus side, the bike was functioning absolutely fantastic.

l have never known a reliable source for predicting the road opening. It seems like usually around Memorial Day but I don’t think so this year. They have some areas of the road cut out for asphalt repair & they were doing tree removal on the Powerline road/trail yesterday. The snow line is only about 5 minutes up Armstrong above Connector.
Racing is dangerous!

I felt the same my first few times out this Spring but a new front tire helped boost my confidence & l’ve been feeling in the zone the last few rides.

Thanks for the reminder that I need the same!

Front tires are funny. They never look as worn as the rear, but once those crisp, fresh, knob edges are round, they no longer offer peak performance.

Much better early season ride today.
Discovered a new local trail.
Some fun slalom sections, not
Too many rocks and roots. Very pretty with flowers along the trail.
A couple more times and I will ready to roam.
