Fun stuff but way above my pay grade. Is this the first time the engine has been opened up?

Funny you ask, that engine block holder actually came from the Porsche factory itself. My guy bought it from the estate of a friend who after working 40 years was allowed to keep it when he retired and brought it to Canada with him. When the guy started at Porsche he was building 356s, the bolt pattern is apparently the same on all the Porsche and VW boxer engines (I don't know if it will hold inline and V engines, but maybe it does).

And, yeah, it'll be clean, I'll get pictures then. All the stuff without oil-passages goes in the bead-blast chamber. Not sure what happens to the stuff with oil passages.

Yes, first time it's been out of the car. It was leaking from everywhere. Getting a new clutch and exhaust and rebuild of tranny too. Plus about a mile of oil and brake lines.
Sweet. It’ll be good for another 40 years.

Nice - I’m sure you are deep in this but don’t forget the injectors and fuel lines cause “while you are there”. Plus the crank position sensor if never been done - sucks while motor/gearbox in the car.

super jealous but the die was cast for mine, they made a lot of g-bodies so, maybe I’ll get back in the game when life settles.

Here is mine before right before I sold it this past April:

Well, the pickups will go to Mexico to have the electronics ripped out, and a V8 engine with a carb put in.

What’s the compression ratio in that air cooled Porsche motor?
