That's awesome.

Meanwhile, before we were evacuated from Seward last night, we had the pleasure of walking around the town and saw a ton of banners and other signs congratulating Lydia

This was the train station (?) in Seward, watching the race.

She's in Canada.
We can’t be sure without an apology. ogsmile
But the IOC app should have Canadian broadcast info.

This was crazy. Boby Fink looked out of it with 50m to go in the 800m. With 25m left he starts a run and ends up winning.

impressive results so far from Great Britain, likely the result of the London Games
Countries always seem to get a boost from either holding a recent, current or upcoming Olympics.
The medals hauls from Japan and China certainly bear that out.
I expect China is going to be dominate in the upcoming winter games by a considerable margin.

Real nail biter in the NED - US women’s soccer. US still not looking up to par. Hard to say what it is. I’d give first half to them, 2nd to NED, 1st OT to NED, 2nd OT to US.
They move on, after Alyssa Naehr saves one pk in reg time and two in the shootout. Big bright spot was Lynn Williams who’s barely played so far. A goal and an assist.

NED is impressive for only qualifying for wcup 5 years ago, and this is their first olympics they’ve qualified for. Miedema really is a top player.

Should be a good final round tonight in men’s golf. Xander is way overdue for a W considering he’s been inside the top 20 owgr forever with his last win being 2+ years ago. Would obviously be a huge gold for Hideki on home turf to take home a gold on top of his recent green jacket. Kinda pulling for Paul Casey who at 44 is one of the best players to have never won a major so a gold would be huge! Rory also sniffing around just a few back with the potential to go low..

Leaders going off at 10:09 ET

Wow that was something. He held on. In the woods, through the trees. Fun to watch live. Matsuyama just missing puts. Sabatini shoots a -10! And a seven way play off for bronze that I didn’t stay up to watch.
Certainly makes third something to play for.

US out in men’s volleyball against Argentina. Terrible serving.
The women’s beach volleyball had a challenge that US team won, ball ruled out, then Canada challenged the challenge?? And won. Most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen. Needs to be explained. Now we need like the Supreme Court for challenges?

Even the announcers don’t get it. I think the referee is lucky there was no crowd there.

outstanding performance in the womens 5000.
A Gold after falling and recovering to win her 1500 heat just a few hours earlier.
Should Sifan Ahssen carry on to win both the 1500 and 10,000 as expected she will rank up with the 2 greatest Olympic runners ever Paavo Nuirimi and Emile Zatopek.

New "sport" in the 2024 Games...Break Dancing. For real.
And we comment on the costs of "staging" everything, hosting it all.
Wonder what a break dancing stadium looks like?

If you look at gymnastics floor events, some of it is essentially break dancing. Maybe that’s where the idea of break dancing flair came from?

ESPN has a bit of explanation of breaking's inclusion at the Paris games:

It's part of trying to get more "urbanized" events, and attract younger viewers/fans. It was added alongside skateboarding, surfing, and sport climbing, which have debuted at the current Olympics. (I presume 3-on-3 basketball was also added for the same reason...)

"The IOC stressed its future priorities for Paris, and beyond to the 2028 Los Angeles Games, by claiming it will hit a long-term target of equal participation by men and women athletes, and more urbanized events."

They've actually lowered the total Olympic competitor count, by removing other events and participants, mostly in boxing and wrestling, per the article.

Breaking also debuted at the junior Olympics in 2018:
