CERTIFIED FIRST CHAIR LOL

IMG20230416081816.jpg

8:10 for hopeful powder ripping high Alpine fun. Top closed so we ripped some groomers and headed to the t bar. Opened at 9:05 this morning. A little chilly 10° with 30 mph gusts maybe 10 below. We hunted for powder all over and found coral reefs underneath wind scoured spots and deposits. IMG20230416144809.jpg

Skied Horseshoe and CJ's and still a little tough with a breakable untrustworthy wind lip crust on top of the old hard pack. Laboring turns unless hauling gas like @Doug Briggs

Learning to aggressively run this like Doug and stay on top with more like SG turns. We saw a couple of guys fly past us surfing the top.

Skied crazy fun trails in trees hoping for sun warmed crust break.

Super bell to bell fun with Doug Marty and Robert..

And forgot to add We headed over to Peak 6 to check out how it has been skied out. It was fantastic and we spent a bunch of time in the trees then as we approach the base we almost went through a pond skim. Lol one of my biggest goals is to be a pond scum skimmer lol.

The missing reports...

I took Friday off to go to PT, walk with a recuperating friend and get a bunch of office work done.

Saturday there was new snow and it kept falling all morning. @Snowfan and I got an early start and a fortuitous break at T-bar as it opened just as we were considering taking another lap elsewhere.

Outlaw. Visibility was poor with wind, fog, and blowing snow. The undersurface was still present. Speed was your friend.

During a refrigerator break. A bunch of laps on softening snow in Ptarmigan followed.

IMG_20230415_143940630.jpg We revisited some trees that were fun in the old days before Peak 7 was developed and Indy chair installed. They were good fun, yet again.

A look back at the mountain. No hike to was opened (just Imperial Bowl) so we were looking forward to hitting it on Sunday.

An early start on Sunday was rewarded with bluebird conditions.

Outlaw (yet again) after some groomer laps. The skiing was rather challenging as it was crust on coral. Speed was your friend but it was also easy to get tracking in the wrong direction in the crust and speed became a foe.

IMG_20230416_093658143.jpg North side of the bowl. People were struggling all over.

IMG_20230416_093700781.jpg South side. Many of the tracks are left over from the day before and coated in the newly developed crust.

IMG_20230416_105038515.jpg Powder 8s. Yup, more crust. The rest of Peak 7 was either crust on coral or just plain coral. You had to watch your line to keep in the fresh crust. The season of 'good for you' snow conditions continues.

Fun in the sun. We headed over to Peak 6 to check out their conditions. Wonderland was nice, both the snowfield and the chutes. By then we were getting a bit tired and felt less strenuous skiing was called for. We did some nice laps on Claimjumper and other Peak 8 runs to finish out the day.

Strava pooped out again. It stopped after the photo of Powder 8s. Another 12 runs and 17K were had.

Anyone going to ski Copper tomorrow who would like to get together for a few turns?
I was up today and it was beautiful. Sunny skies and great soft snow, the bumps were just perfect plus not many there. I did a bunch of laps from Spaulding (Patrol Chute) to Far East and then back to Super Bee and Storm King, Alpine is closed so no one there there, very nice. Would have been fun to make a couple runs with you, maybe another time. Hope you have a good one!

The sun is repairing the crusty covered coral reef. Beautiful spring conditions at A Basin today and met new friends.

My dog likes the vibe at the beach...

Good few days in CO.

Sunday - Breck.
- The place was basically empty and it was closing day for Peak 9 & 10, and "Winter Ops" including chairs 5, 6, E.
- Groomers were in mid-winter form in the morning; had fun ripping groomers on Peak 9 & 10 with absolutely no one around
- Upper mountain had some great lines and no-so great lines depending on the aspect
- Peak 7 shoulder was $$$, chalky wind blown all day
- Lake Chutes was down to rocks in the upper part of the line
- Snow White was the perfect mix of light corn snow
- The leftover pow from Saturday got super heavy by late afternoon
- Grabbed one last ride on 5-Chair. RIP. I have a thing for old Riblets, especially doubles; they are the last of a dying breed.

Monday - A-Basin
- Perfect, classic spring A-Basin Day
- Groomers were perfect in the morning
- Aspects softened up, following the sun
- Zuma Cornice was super fun corn spring snow midday
- East Wall hiking was perfect with chalk in the chutes
- Watched someone double-eject in the 2nd notch and slide all the way down the traverse; fortunately she was fine but couldn't self arrest but was able to steer away from the rocks up top
- Seemed to be a much of employees from other closed resorts enjoying the day there
- Saw two women skiing topless with their guy friends videoing their ski down under Lenawee

Heading to Abay this week for our annual May days with a couple days at Loveland and maybe Copper. Never skied Copper before and am wondering about parking there, and if it's that big a headache midweek?

Parking will not be an issue. This coming weekend might be busy again because of end of season celebration but nothing major. It has been surprisingly very quiet. Weekday or Weekend of late.

If you decide to try Copper and don’t have an Ikon message me.

It looks like Sunday could be a nice day as the sun comes out and it warms up after the storm.

Too bad. We leave WP on Sunday. Tomorrow should be good. The snow today was a bit crispy in parts but overall OK. Had fun watching a bit of the Red Bull shindig. They created an awesome park on Vasquez Ridge.

@tball skiing this weekend? Might be 1 last good run down Triple Treat if you don’t mind the long way out. :beercheer:
It looks like there is too much kid stuff going on down here this weekend, so shooting for Monday and next weekend. Sad to see so much closing this weekend, but glad Copper is staying open late. Hope it continues next year!

WP exceeded expectations. 2 to 4 predicted; over a foot delivered.

Freshies early bit cut up by noon.

One of the jumps for the Red Bull comp. I thought I caught one of the lady skiers going over it but not...hard to phone photo with goggles on!

Planning on skiing WP tomorrow (Sun) with my almost 13yo and one of his buddies. Anyone going to be there who is interested in getting together for a few turns?
