Breck had the reported 10". First tracks on Outlaw was superb.

Vis was up and down.

For the most part, the snow fell without any wind effect. Some of the upper mountain was the exception, CJ's was pretty splendid, though.

Enjoying the trees.

This was just the kind of refresh that we needed to keep going strong well into May.

MJ or A-basin tomorrow?

Looks like it was sunny today. Seems like lower, warmer and below tree line at MJ may be the call. Anyone out there today have thoughts? Anyone skiing either tomorrow?

On injured reserve this season, but reports from my kids and friends suggest a lot of key MJ lifts, such as Challenger and Iron Horse, have not been running. That negatively impacts MJ skiing.

Thanks. I'm not sure, but I'm assuming just Super Guage tomorrow, and I'm fine with a bump-only day!

C-lift was down for a while Last week, but was running on Saturday. Since today was last day for WP, it is possible that only Super Guage will be running tomorrow. Iron Horse and Pony often don't run unless it's it is a weekend or holiday.

@Snowfan: in my decades of skiing MJ, and getting there very early in the morning, I've only snagged that parking spot once. And you got it on your first try!

Well, I forgot my phone so today didn't happen.

;)

Breck groomers were a pleasant start to the day. A couple of groomers on 7 then over to Peak 6 to check out Wonderland. It was practically winter snow over there. Three runs then back to 8 to take a couple runs on George's with similar cold, dry snow. My final run was Outlaw in Horseshoe and it was pretty weird. The krummholz entrance was nice but yesterday's snow apparently got too soft and heavy in the actual bowl so people didn't ski it much, leaving a mess of turns and traverses up to a foot deep. It was rock hard but it was firm and stiff enough to make it a real challenge. Big Brother below picnic table was nice.

Lifts are opening at 9 now and Indy, T-bar, Imperial, Zendo and Kensho, along with the gondola are the lifts. Nothing below Columbine on Peak 8 is open.

More snow in the forecast will continue to help conditions and push the closing date farther back.

Fun afternoon at Mary Jane today. The north-facing runs never fully softened and remained a bit firm underneath, but the east-facing backside runs softened nicely.

Wonderful mashed potatoes this afternoon will make for some good for you skiing tomorrow. :geek:

...IMPACTFUL WINTER STORM TUESDAY INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY...

.A winter storm will impact the area Tuesday through Wednesday
morning, and will produce a period of heavy snow particularly from
Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday morning. Widespread storm
total snowfall amounts between 8 and 16 inches are expected for most
of the mountains and upper elevations of the foothills. Snowfall
rates of 2 inches per hour will be possible during the heavier
snowfall Tuesday evening and Tuesday night, and travel will likely
be very difficult during this period. Snow levels will lower Tuesday
evening and overnight, with increasing potential for impactful
accumulations over the Palmer Divide between Castle Rock and
Colorado Springs.

I guess I will posted a few pics from the weekend. @tball I did a drive by to see if you happen to be at patrol try outs  They had great conditions.

Finding uncrowded runs was not a problem. Everyone seemed to be skiing runs that were groomed and then has a few inches of new on top. But there was plenty of 10-14" untracked to be found early in the day. Union Meadows was a great example.

In no particular order other than Sat then Sun

This has a history. There was a time, when Denver Parks made their deal for resort management with Intrawest I believe, that the plan was to groom large swaths of the Jane to make it more accessible to intermediafes to attract more skiers. One of our neighbors up there helped start the movement when she had a load of bumper stickers and tee-shirts made upon her own initiative. (She was told to knock it off but the movement took off anyway. Needless to say and thank heaven, it did not happen.

Yes, I think Intrawest had big plans for Jane grooming. Thank goodness it didn't happen due to the uproar.

We can blame Alterra for this travesty cutting through Drunken Frenchman a couple of years ago (pic from yesterday):

I woke up to a beautiful sunny day. And it had snowed. And I was going skiing. Woohoo!

I met @Snowfan at the base of the gondola and we headed up to enjoy the day.

@Snowfan laying it down in George's Thumb. The snow was a few inches deep and slightly compacted by wind. It was excellent skiing despite the occasional lump from previous days. It was multiple laps on George's and White Crown for the win.

A refreshment break.

25415.jpeg We met up with CJ on Imperial and by chance on the gondola to town. We got the 'Rubber Chicken story' on the gondola as it was too long for the 2.5 minute ride on Imperial.
