In an attempt to make a poor man's gravel bike, i massaged my XC bike to see how it would work. In the end, not bad. I have a -17d stem on order to drop the riding position a bit more. But even as is, I'm pretty happy. 700x35 Conti speed King CX tires.

Unless I'm trying to keep with the young bucks on their gravel bikes, I vastly prefer my Procaliber hardtail with 40c tires for gravel riding. Vastly!

Yeah it was mostly about getting that extra hand position. That's a 700mm bar and having the bar ends just inside the grips works well. Dropping the bars is mostly just comfort and less sail area.

And part of that, it depends when the last time they gravelled the road was. Sometimes it's nice hard pack with some loose stuff on the sides...go back 2 weeks later and it's a gravel pit across the entire road. And the washboard..yeesh...

The concept of a 38mm gravel tire on a rim with 35 mm internal width makes me giggle so hard that I had to have a back wheel like it too.
